Project 1: Brockaghboy Wind Farm
Summary: Adman were appointed by ERG Renew as Principal Contractor to undertake all Civil Balance of Plant works for Brockaghboy wind farm which is located outside Garvagh in County Derry/Londonderry.
Project Detail: Our scope of works involved the design and construct of 19 no. 3MW Nordex Wind Turbine Generators with all associated infrastructure including access tracks, crane hardstands, substation and site drainage. Key features of the works were as follows:
- Construction of foundations for 19 no. Nordex Type N90 Wind Turbine Generators.
- Construction of 7,900m of new 4m wide site tracks using site won material, imported stone and geotextiles
- Construction of fenced substation compound for single storey 110/33kV control building/switch house.
- Construction of 4no. culvert crossings using bottomless steel arch culverts on in-situ concrete seating beams and gabion basket head walls & railings
- 12000m of cable trenching including excavation, backfill with marker tape, compaction of suitable fill material, road crossings, top soiling & grass seeding
- Construction of 19 no. 1000m2 crane pads built using site won material, imported stone and geotextiles
- Upgrade to public highways including widening and resurfacing of 1000m of the Curraghmore Road, including all storm drainage works, fencing works & hedge planting.
- Alterations and repair works to public roads along the WTG delivery route including widening of junctions along A Class roads
- Formation of 6 no. new site entrances including gates and bitmac aprons.
- Water Quality monitoring & testing.
- 1 number anemometer mast, foundation, access track & hard standing.
Project 2: Castlecraig Wind Farm
Summary: Adman were appointed by NTR as Main Contractor to undertake all Civil Balance of Plant works for Castlecraig wind farm which is located 4km west of Drumquin in Co. Tyrone.
Project Detail: Our scope of works involved the design and construct of 10 no. 2.5MW Nordex Wind Turbine Generators with all associated infrastructure including access tracks, crane hardstands, substation and site drainage. Key features of the works were as follows:
- Design & Construct (Wind Turbine Generator delivery route modifications, Wind Turbine Generator foundations, hard standings, substation, permanent & temporary works, collector circuit)
- Construction of foundations for 10 no. Nordex Type N100 Wind Turbine Generators. Sections of the site had peat depths of up to 3m. WTG and Crane hard standing excavations were constructed using traditional dig and replace and “rock doughnut” methodologies
- Construction of 4,500m of new 4m wide “dig and replace” and “floated” site tracks using site won material, imported stone and geotextiles
- Maintaining upgrading and selected widening of 7000m of existing forestry access track leading to the wind farm entrance. This element of the works required liaising with and facilitating NI Forestry Service to in order to co-ordinate and facilitate tree-felling operations concurrently with Wind Farm construction
- Construction of single storey 33/11kV control building/switch house & compound.
- 6000m of Cable Trenching including excavation, backfill with marker tape, compaction of suitable fill material & reinstatement
- Construction of 10 no. 1000m2 crane pads/hard standings built using site won material, imported stone and geotextiles
- Minor alterations to Public Roads between Killybegs harbour (Co. Donegal) & site.
- Water Quality monitoring & testing
Project 3: Cloghan Wind Farm
Summary: Adman were appointed by Statkraft as Main Contractor and PSCS to undertake all Civil Balance of Plant works for Cloghan Wind Farm which is located outside Cloghan, County Offaly.
Project Detail: Our scope of works involved the design and construct of 9 no. V136 Vestas WTGs with all associated infrastructure including access tracks, crane hardstands, associated drainage works and public road. The project was located on an area of bogland (still used for peat harvesting), improved bogland and agricultural land.
The site contained sections blanket bog, with varying depths throughout ranging from 1m to over 3m with very soft silts and gravel underneath. We strategically used the existing cut banks, which had peat removed by landowners over the years, as natural Peat Disposal Areas. We worked closely with our Client and site landowners (9no) to facilitate ongoing agricultural activities and turbary peat extraction.
The job specific requirements included:
- Design & construction (WTG delivery route modifications, WTG Foundations (Buoyant and Piled), Piles, Piling Platform, hard standings, RMU Platform, PMM, permanent & temporary works, Bridge widening to TII specification, collector circuit)
- PSCS Role: Fulfilment of the role of PSCS – In accordance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013) for the complete project up to the delivery of the first turbine component
- Construction of reinforced concrete foundations for 9 no. V136 Vestas WTG’s including. 8no Buoyant and 1no Piled Foundation;
- Construction of 4,780m of new minimum 5.0m wide site tracks using imported aggregate and geotextiles.
- Installation of all permanent and temporary SUDS drainage systems
- Works for over 5000m of Cable Trenching including open cut excavation, cable and duct installations, backfill with marker tape, compaction of suitable fill material, top soiling and grass seeding
- 9 no. 1625m2 crane pads and blade areas constructed using imported stone filling and geotextiles.
- Water Quality and turbidity monitoring and testing
