Adman were appointed by ESB Networks as Main Contractor (and PSCS) to undertake the construction of a new 220/110 Kv Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Sub-Station on the outskirts of the village of Ballydesmond on the Cork / Kerry border.
The project involved a comprehensive scope of works which included:
- Site clearance and bulk earthworks to level sites over a 10 acre site
- Over 700m of new access roads. This element involved importing large volumes of fill for road formation & major drainage works with several culvert crossings
- Two 2-storey cladded structural steel portal frame GIS sub-station buildings each measuring 50m x 13m & with an eaves height of 15m
- Over 2,000m² of 400mm reinforced concrete yard/hardstanding areas
- Two reinforced concrete transformer bunds including 15m high ‘blast’ walls
- Reinforced concrete underground water storage tank (for fire emergencies)
- Installation of reinforced concrete underground cable troughs complete with precast concrete cover slabs
- New box culvert river crossing including piled foundations and precast concrete wing walls
- Storm and foul water drainage installation
- Install 311m of 2.6m high ESB specification palisade fencing
